Those of you dreading a rinse and repeat experience for New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii U will be in for a bit of a treat. Nintendo today announced a few new details to extra modes in the upcoming launch title as well as a new feature that is in the main game.
First up is this guy, named Nabbit, a random spawning character who runs off with his nifty bag. Catch the little guy and return the items he drops to Toad and you will be rewarded with a P-Acorn that will let you fly endlessly for one level.
Also detailed was various modes you will be able to enjoy when picking up the title. Boost Mode (details first became available at E3) is the featured mode allowing the person operating the GamePad to place helpful blocks along the level to help the Wii Mote players clear pitfalls, reach secret areas, or if you are a dick you can use the blocks to hinder and possibly kill them. Coin battle allows 4 players to run along specifically designed levels in order to try and collect the most coins. Challenge mode is the next feature, a multiplayer mode with various tasks such as Time Attack, Coin Collection, 1-Up Rally, and Special. All of these modes can be played in Boost Mode as well.
Early reports are saying these added modes and the improved level design are features shaping up to help New Super Mario Bros. U to be more of a great Mario experience and less of a cheap, lazily developed cash in like New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS. Only time will tell.
